OUGD504 - Studio Task 9 - Search Engine Optimisation

Introduction To SEO

Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is the method that people/companies use to get their websites to appear high up on the list of search results from a search engine. Search engines use algorithms to work out what order the results should appear in, and change their algorithms every so often, which stops a page being the top result definitively.

Page Authority - How likely a web page is to be ranked high in the listings.
Domain Authority - How likely the site as a whole is to be ranked high in the listings.

Their are various tools available to use that will test the SEO methods of your website when it's been made live. These allow you to improve the quality of your site.

Factors that effect a pages SEO are:

  • Content of the page
  • Quality of the coding
  • Architecture of the site
  • Useful links
  • Links from other trustworthy sites
  • Reputation on social media

  • Come up with an actual home page that acts as a base to the site rather than it being just a series of blogs that interlink.
  • Include key words "international", "culture", and "food" not just "pancakes" in my body text.
  • Use the "alt" function on every image given the importance of images on my site.
